Timothée Chalamet’s latest comments have caused a stir on social media. At 29, Chalamet already boasts an enviable resume that includes two Academy Award Nominations for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, but Chalamet isn’t satisfied. The star of Dune, Lady Bird, and A Complete Unknown told Variety that he doesn’t appreciate going home empty-handed at awards ceremonies. He believes very few nominees go home feeling satisfied after losing an award, and says, “I’ve been around some deeply generous, no-ego actors, and maybe some of them are going, ‘That was fun.’ But I know for a fact a lot of them are going, ‘Fuck!’” He says, “People can call me a try-hard” but “I’m the one actually doing it here.” Chalamet previously chronicled his feelings about writing a winner’s speech for himself, only to end up not using it and said it makes him feel like a “narcissistic arrogant prick.”
That wasn’t his only eyebrow-raising admission; He was asked if he would ever do television, and he replied with a firm “No.” Several Best Actor winners have found equal success on the big and small screens, but Chalamet didn’t elaborate on why he has no interest in taking up a television project. This is surprising as the actor started his career on Showtime’s Homeland, but it seems he won’t be doing his own version of Peaky Blinders or Big Little Lies anytime soon. Chalamet is currently receiving Oscar buzz for A24’s Marty Supreme, which releases on Christmas, with Variety calling him a front-runner for the award. He will likely be competing against other Best Actor front-runners, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Bill Skarsgård, and Stellan Skarsgård, to name a few, but perhaps, third time will be the charm for Timothée.
