Josh D’Amaro has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of the Walt Disney Company, succeeding Bob Iger as he steps down. D’Amaro is set to officially transition into the role on March 18, 2026, during the next board meeting. Iger has been preparing D’Amaro for the role, and he is coming in with a proven track record of success within the company. Many are wondering where D’Amaro will steer the company under his leadership. Based on his experience and the current trajectory of the company, he could lead to a period of increased growth.
D’Amaro has worked for the Walt Disney Company for 28 years. His most recent role, Disney Experiences Chairman, saw monumental growth for the company under his leadership. In the announcement press release, he is described as “the architect of the largest global expansion in Disney Experiences' history.” In the 2025 financial year, the Experiences segment made a revenue of $36 billion. D’Amaro has a focus on crafting experiences that engage fans and draw them into the world of the subject fandom, a prime example being Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in the Disney parks. He has expanded merchandise production and is the man behind Disney's partnership with Epic Games to collaborate with their intellectual properties and Fortnite.

With his expertise in expanding the reach, immersion, and availability of Disney products and IPs, D’Amaro could bring more of the company to the people. He has the potential to reach further into the digital landscape and explore new ways to make Disney experiences more accessible to the public. In a town hall interview, D’Amaro said (via The Hollywood Reporter), “We are 100 years old, but we’re 100 years young as well, willing to embrace new technology, new creators and new markets. That willingness to change and take risks is what keeps the brand going, and it’s something I intend to continue to push on.”
A close collaborator of the company and D'Amaro in particular contributed to the discussion. In a comment to THR, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney didn't say much in terms of future specificities, but did positively comment on D'Amaro's capabilities, “Josh and Disney really get it and have a crisp understanding of how the future of their film and TV IP, Disney+ and games fit together into a digital ecosystem and tie into parks and other things.”
